The mission of the Little Village Special Service Area #25 is to preserve the cultural identity of the commercial and local community while creating a more attractive and distinctive business area.
What is a Special Service Area?
A Special Service Area (SSA) is an economic development tool created by state statute and city ordinance that allows additional real estate property taxes to be levied to fund added services for a defined area. The services funded through the SSA tax are in addition to services generally provided by the City and benefit those properties located within SSA boundaries.
SSA #25 was established in 2004 to elevate 26th Street’s existing assets; to create a dynamic public space that attracts new businesses and shoppers, and strengthen the residential community. Over the past six years SSA #25 has worked to accomplish these goals through different activities and services.
